Continental has adopted an innovative and comprehensive approach to automotive safety with the aim of reducing and ultimately eliminating vehicle accidents, injuries and fatalities. Dubbed “Vision Zero”, the pioneering initiative is driven by the Continental Group’s leading status as one of the world’s largest tyre and automotive safety systems manufacturers.

With more than 1.2-million people killed on the world’s roads every year, including over 15 000 fatalities annually in South Africa, Continental launched Vision Zero in 2015 as an innovative and comprehensive approach to automotive safety.

To attain the objectives of Vision Zero, Continental is adopting a three-stage strategy, with eliminating fatal accidents the first step, followed by completely preventing injuries resulting from collisions. The total prevention of all vehicle-related accidents remains the ultimate goal. In South Africa that starts with education and awareness.

This cannot be achieved by Continental along and as such the company regularly joins forces with partners, dealers and motorists around the world to strive towards a common target of accident-free driving.

As one of the world’s top three tyre manufacturers, one of Continental’s main objectives is to educate the public regarding the importance of tyre selection, care and maintenance. These factors are often overlooked despite being among the leading causes of road accidents, particularly in South Africa.

Vuyi Mpofu as a brand ambassador for Vision Zero s therefore ideally suited through the Gals Garage platform to assist Continental Tyre South Africa in conveying this safety message particularly that of the critical role tyres play in driving safety.

Working with Gals Garage we are well on our way to Vision Zero.
